Marie Antoniette Handler, MD, ABPN

Dr. Mia Handler is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), with a focus on treating adults and professionals. She treats a variety of psychiatric disorders, using a combination of psychotherapeutic approaches and medication management tailored for each individual. Individual psychotherapy may use various frameworks of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and insight-oriented therapy. She is also trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy to work with individuals on addressing and managing trauma. Her interests include treating anxiety disorders, mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder) and personality disorders. She enjoys helping patients heal and strengthen their own interpersonal relationships.

As a Connecticut native, she found herself drawn to Fairfield County after completing her training, and worked at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut. Dr. Handler worked for several years as the Admissions Psychiatrist for Silver Hill. During her tenure at Silver Hill Hospital, she served as one of three Assistant Medical Directors; and most recently, as the Director of Psychiatry. She was also appointed to serve as the Director of Behavioral Health for the Town of New Canaan from 2018-2021, where she worked with various town organizations and leaders to improve education and access to mental health services. During her time at Silver Hill, she worked closely with various patient populations, including executives, professionals and young adults, as well as individuals with co-occurring disorders. She has transitioned to full-time clinical care to focus on creating individualized patient care and partnering closely with clients on their wellness journey.
